Testimonials

Our vacations to the Wild Wildebeest Lodge in South Africa have been amazing!  This is our second trip to the lodge and each has been a life long memory.  Mike, Karen, Ben, Jacob, are wonderful hosts!  They all go out of their way to make you feel welcome and like family.  The lodge is beautiful and the accommodations are fantastic.  The staff takes care of your every need and the meals are outstanding.  The hunting crew makes sure you have the most professional and the best hunting experiences possible.  We have had great hunting success.  You have time for relaxing, hunting, fireside evenings, experiencing the country with day trips, and you meet other hunters and their families from all over the world.  Everyone leaves the lodge with a larger “family “ than they came with.  Mike and Karen’s sons, Ben & Jacob, have been our special guides.  They have been with us on most of our hunts and we have been with them on some of their hunts. That has made our time at Wild Wildebeest Lodge even more special.  Thanks guys! We have been able to experience our vacations with family and friends.  Thanks for all the memories!  If you get a chance to go to Africa, we can’t say enough about Wild Wildebeest Lodge.   Looking forward to vacation # three!

My stay at the Wild Wildebeest Lodge was a memory that I will never forget.  From the friendliness of everyone, the campfire stories, the animal watching, the hunting, and the accommodations (especially the food), it was all absolutely amazing!  Thanks to all of you for making my African hunting safari a great success!  A special thanks to my PH for the knowledge and appreciation shown for the harvested animals, and also for an ostrich encounter that will have me talking and laughing about for the rest of my life!

My wife Sheri and I have been to Africa twice, with Wild Wildebeest lodge being our second trip. Having a wonderful time and falling in love with Africa with our first trip, and thinking we wouldn't be able to top it. We booked with Wild Wildebeest lodge, and wow were we in for a surprise. The lodge and accommodations were wonderful.  The staff was friendly and courteous at all times. The food was superior, if you were hungry, they were always there and willing to whip something up for you. The game was plentiful and the professional hunters were fantastic. Best of all were the relationships developed with all the people associated with Wild Wildebeest Lodge, but especially with Karen and Mike and their family. We had such a wonderful trip that we booked for the following year and are bringing our five children with us!

From planning the trip while in the states, to being picked up at the airport, to the moment we were dropped back off, everything was amazing. Wild Wildebeest Lodge did not disappoint and far exceeded anything we would have hoped for. The hospitality of ALL the staff was extraordinary! Our PH was fantastic. He did an amazing job locating our trophies and working to ensure we had a successful and enjoyable hunt. The lodge slogan is “Come as a client, leave as a friend” but we would say by the end we left with an extended family! Our family tends to be a “one and done” family when it comes to vacations, as we love to see the world. Despite that, Wild Wildebeest Lodge is on our list of places to return!

WOW!  Just WOW!

I had very high expectations going into the trip, but I have to say, the WWL crew more than exceeded them.  From the time we landed until we flew out, the crew was on the spot!  Our PH and tracker had us in front of animals every day.  Breath taking views!  Many thanks to the entire crew.  So professional, curious, and polite.  Frankly, we didn’t want to leave.

I want to say how much fun my brother and I had on our trip. From the time we left the airport to our return trip, our professional hunter was there to help us. He was an absolute pleasure to work with. He really seems to know his stuff when it came to hunting and tracking. When we were relaxing around the fire, he was just as much fun to be around. Everyone at the lodge was very kind and helpful. We had an extended trip, and we really feel that we got to know everyone well. The accommodations and the food were amazing. The little surprises they threw in for us throughout the week were wonderful as well. I would also like to express just how grateful I was that we sat down and prayed before every meal. I really like to see that. Again, I want to express what an absolute pleasure we had on our trip, and I would love to bring my wife next time.

I would like to second that. The experience was “once in a lifetime”. I enjoyed the whole staff and being able to joke around with the rest of the PH’s around the campfire. Our tracker did an excellent job as well, and we did our job to make his job easy. We got to know the other guests, and it was a pleasure hanging out with them. These memories will last a lifetime.

Now that we landed back in Minnesota and are driving back home, I wanted to take a second and give you a summary of our thoughts. So to say the least, we are overwhelmingly happy with the trip overall. The moment our PH met us at the airport, we were treated very provisionally and politely. That continued throughout our entire trip with every single staff member. I can’t say enough of how I enjoy hunting with my PH and his skills. Everything was beyond our expectations and felt we were treated like kings. We will definitely be promoting Wild Wildebeest Lodge. I will speak for myself and will be planing a future trip. Thanks also for helping us along the way, planning the trip with all of the many questions and needed information. I will be looking for information for a possible future trip to Missouri. I can only imagine that the service will be similar there as well.

My husband Joe and I love to travel. On quite a whim (and maybe I was feeling a bit tipsy and bold), I purchased the travel/hunt package for Wild Wildebeest Lodge at the live auction for the National Wild Turkey Federation banquet sponsored by the Central Iowa Longspurs Chapter held at Izaak Walton League in Des Moines, IA. I was caught up in the moment of bidding on the package! A good friend long ago told me always trust your gut, and I can’t explain it, but I can tell you I was going with my gut that evening. And let me tell, we have absolutely no regrets!!!!! We attended an open house where we met Mike and Karen and the family. They all helped us put our plan into place and guided us through everything along the way including recommending the firearm permitting folks and where to stay when we landed that first night (City Lodge Hotel). Absolutely every question we had they answered. I loved that they provided us with an estimate of what the hunt and stay would cost for the plans we had, and I was able to pre-pay state-side before leaving. Some might have been disappointed to be the only ones in camp for the week, but we were not. This was exactly the kind of week away we needed. It was so grounding for me personally and also enriching. Everyone in camp treated us so well. Our PH was amazing; his expertise was so appreciated. The ladies who cooked and cleaned were awesome! I giggle still at the idea that my hunt shirts were ironed! All the gals were always full of smiles and chided me for bringing my dishes to them. I simply felt like I was home and needed to help a little! Also, the FOOD!!!!!! Absolutely delightful! It is obvious that Mike and Karen and everyone care about everything with respect to a game preserve. I love that they plan each year carefully for the numbers of animals to be harvested and the thought that goes into this. Let’s not forget to mention the shear beauty of the country. ! know it was spring and the foliage wasn’t very green, but it was beautiful none-the-less. We were able to see so much wildlife, and the hunting far exceeded any expectations we had. In-between hunts, it was simply phenomenal to watch the animals come and go at the feeding station to the west of the lodge. I sat at the table for hours watching and taking photos. The company around the campfire after dinner each night was wonderful. The evenings were so enjoyable, and we learned so much about the country and life on the preserve. I can’t forget to mention our skinners and our tracker. To watch those men expertly remove the hide left this veterinarian jealous. To this day, I am not able to sharpen a blade quite like they can! And I thank them for putting up with my exploration of the bodies as they were skinning (goes along with the territory of being a veterinarian and wanting to do a comparative anatomy session)! I can’t thank them enough for carting me over to the school to visit the children. It was literally life changing for me. I am making plans to help support the Wild Wildebeest Children’s Foundation, and we definitely want to go back again someday. If I have left out anyone, it is unintentional, because the motto of Come as a Guest, leave as a Friend is so very true! I am ever so happy to provide a reference to anyone who would have questions. I literally could go on and on, and it should be obvious that this was my all-time favorite vacation ever!
